Gentle & Lowly- A Tender Friend

Picking up on the reflective song in the service, George reminded us that even when we're barely holding on, Jesus is actually holding onto us. Through stories of mental health struggles and wartime trauma on Remembrance Sunday, George drew attention to Christ's role as our tender, faithful friend who never turns away those seeking help. Jesus gives us the gift of friendship with him and in community so that we can find encouragement and hope in life. Looking at the emotional life of Jesus who has deep compassion for his people, we see how this sometimes manifests in anger against sin and brokenness as it inflicts suffering on the people of God. George ended with a challenge and encouragement to go to our frontlines with hearts full of the compassion of Jesus and a willingness to reveal Jesus as we are faithful friends to those around us.

Reflect on the times when you felt alone and remember how Jesus was there, holding you up.

Reflection: As followers of Jesus, we are called to reflect his heart of compassion to those around us. The sermon reminded us of the importance of being a non-judgmental presence and offering friendship to the hurting and broken. Consider how you can show compassion and kindness to someone in need today, reflecting the heart of Jesus.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, fill my heart with compassion and kindness. Help me to see those who are hurting and to offer them the love and friendship of Jesus. May my actions reflect your heart and bring hope to those in need. Amen.
