Gentle & Lowly- Another Helper
In the latest sermon of our Gentle & Lowly series, Mig shares how the Holy Spirit brings Jesus' gentle and lowly heart from theory to vibrant reality in our lives. Through personal stories and the bible, he reveals how the Spirit—the same power that raised Christ from the grave—now lives in us to transform head knowledge into heart experience. Put another way, Mig unpacks how God's presence can move from intellectual understanding to life-changing encounter.
Five-day Devotional Material to accompany this sermon
Day 1: The Gentle and Lowly Heart of Jesus
Scripture: Matthew 11:28-30
Reflection: Once again we return to reflect on the gentle and lowly heart of Jesus, a heart which is an antidote to a world filled with noise and demands. He is not a distant king but a Savior who steps into our mess, offering us a yoke that is easy and a burden that is light. Reflect on the areas of your life where you need to experience His gentleness and humility. How can you lean into His heart today?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for your gentle and lowly heart. Help me to come to you with my burdens and find rest in your presence. Teach me to walk in your ways and to embrace your peace. Amen.
Day 2: The Unchanging Nature of Christ
Scripture: Hebrews 13:8
Reflection:
The unchanging nature of Jesus' heart towards us has been central to this series. Despite his majesty and glory, he remains the one who welcomes us into his presence. His invitation to follow him is as real today as it was for the first disciples. Consider how his unchanging nature provides stability and hope in your life. How does knowing that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever impact your faith?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the constant and consistent heart of Jesus. In a world that is ever-changing, help me to anchor my faith in his unchanging nature. May his love and presence guide me each day. Amen.
Day 3: The Role of the Holy Spirit
Scripture: John 14:16-17
Reflection: The Holy Spirit is the presence and power of Jesus with us, guiding, comforting, and empowering us. He is the Spirit of truth who dwells within us, making the heart of Christ real in our lives. Reflect on how the Holy Spirit has been a present in your faith journey. In what ways can you become more aware of his presence and guidance?
Prayer: Spirit of God, thank you for dwelling within me. Open my heart to your guidance and truth. Help me to be sensitive to your leading and to experience the fullness of Christ's love through you. Amen.
Day 4: Experiencing God's Love
Scripture: Romans 5:5
Reflection: The Holy Spirit pours God's love into our hearts, transforming our understanding of his affection for us from head knowledge to heart experience. Consider how you have felt God's love in your life. How can you open yourself more to his love and let it overflow to others?
Prayer: Heavnely Father, thank you for pouring your love into my heart through the Holy Spirit. Help me to experience and embrace this love fully, and let it flow through me to touch the lives of those around me. Amen.
Day 5: Living in the Power of the Spirit
Scripture: Romans 8:11
Reflection: The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us, empowering us to live a life that reflects his glory. This power is not just for overcoming sin but for living a vibrant, Spirit-filled life. Reflect on how the Spirit's power is at work in you. How can you rely more on his strength rather than your own?
Prayer: Mighty God, thank you for the resurrection power of the Holy Spirit within me. Help me to live each day in the strength and vitality that comes from you. May my life be a testimony of your power and love. Amen.
